Career opportunities

R&D Research Associate:

Conduct research, analysis, and experimentation on improving performance of electrochemical components and systems, such as PEM fuel cell systems and regenerative fuel cells systems. Specifically, design prototypes, test fixtures and experiments utilizing established mathematical and scientific techniques; design biological fuel cell system using three electrode system and potentiostat setup to condition electrode and conduct constant polarization, Linear Scan Voltammetry, Cyclic Voltammetry Scan etc; develop methods for scaling up of the biological fuel cell system. Also analyze electrode active compounds including reductive chemical and biological species; measure the current output performance and stability of the bio-fuel cell system. Using electrode and fuel cell system to enrich and isolate interesting CO2 fixing microorganisms; grow the interesting microorganism in the fuel cell system while enhance current production and generate useful multi-carbon compounds; Characterize the microorganisms, test the conditions for bacteria to grow in bench scale conditions. Analyze data, prepare reports and research proposals; write manuscripts for publication in scientific journals; present communication at local, national, and international meetings.

Requirements: M.S. in Environmental Science/Engineering, Chemistry/Chemical Engineer or closely related field;

Must possess strong skills in using various laboratory equipment and instruments including Potentiostat, GC FID, laboratory gas station operation, install and operation of fuel cells and mini-stack cells; Strong ability of cultivating, analyzing, evaluating, and screening the effectiveness of the growth of microorganisms on the electrode of biological fuel cell is required; Strong ability in the maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting of various laboratory equipment and instruments is also desired.
